Some rappers are in our speakers and on our TV’s! I thought I’d mention some of their famous films:
Eminem – 8 Mile
Eminem’s astonishing performance in 8 Mile earned him many prestigious awards. The talented rapper/actor plans to act in the upcoming boxing movie ‘Southpaw‘ due to be released in 2013.
Beanie Sigel – State Property
State Property was Sigel’s first main acting role. He went on to act in the sequel – State Property 2, but I think the first one was better!
Ice Cube – Friday
Everybody loves the ‘Friday‘ series & former (or occasional) rap artist Ice Cube plays the role so well…
Ludacris – Crash
Ludacris has acted in quite a few roles since the launch of his career. A particularly memorable one was in the movie ‘Crash‘ – (where his brother was paid by Larenz Tate also pictured) Very powerful film!
Ja Rule – The Fast and the Furious
Rather than a full role, this was more of a cameo appearance, but it’s acting all the same so hey… *shrugs*
Bow Wow – Like Mike
Remember when it was “lil” Bow Wow, you know – before he dropped the “lil” part? Remember when you wanted to know everything he was doing?
When you knew all the lyrics to his songs? – Oh and when you thought he was the cutest boy on TV? That’s about the time this film hit the big screen…Bow has since acted & I’ve always thought he was really good…oh yeah & I love this film!
Queen Latifah – Bringing Down the House
One word: Hilarious! Steve Martin & Queen Latifah made such a funny & crazy on screen duo in this movie. I actually think of QL as an actress more than a rapper, kinda like Ice Cube because they act more than anything else now! A definite must see if you like comedies.
50 Cent – Get Rich or Die Tryin’
This was 50 Cent’s acting debut and was well received by movie critics and movie-goers alike…
Ice-T – New Jack City
You might be used to seeing former DJ/rapper Ice-T on your TV screen on a regular basis these days if you watch Law & Order, however if you know your stuff then you’ll remember 1991 crime thriller ’New Jack City‘ where Ice-T played undercover cop Scotty Appleton.
Wow, he’s come a long way since then & acted in many roles too!
Tupac Shakur – Poetic Justice
This man needs no introduction. He was a beautiful man, a talented rapper, and a natural actor. Above is a still-shot from the movie ‘Poetic Justice‘ in which he co-starred with Janet Jackson.
Will smith – Independence Day
Most people who know me know how HUGE a fan I am of Will Smith! Talented Will has acted in many many films and released some great music over the years (think Miami, Switch, Gettin’ Jiggy Wit’ It, Boom! Shake the Room and more…)
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is still one of the freshest & funniest sitcoms to have ever aired and now Men in Black 3 is in production! Yay! (Oh yeah – the still shot is from the movie Independence Day).
