The Diamond Jubilee. I’d be patronising you if I pretended you hadn’t heard about this in the last few months, weeks, days, today, just now?

It’s everywhere.

So I’ll call this humouring you: The Diamond Jubilee marks the 60th anniversary of a monarch reigning, and this year – this applies to our very own Elizabeth II.

Gold, Diamonds, all these jewels and jewellery sound so glamourous – and just think, on 6 February 2022, the Queen could be celebrating her Platinum Jubilee! Cool! 

So, what comes after this one? What beats out Platinum? Palladium, right?

As it goes, this could be amazing – I mean with technology ruling the world as it does, imagine if people went on forever? We’d literally have to create new everythings! Wow, imagine that…

Outside of foreign comedy and/or people who are the sole reason for the following stereotypes (I wont name names), I’d like to think we Brits are more than a collection of stiff-upper-lips and stodgy cuisine, like this:

One thing we can boast, is our beautiful architecture as you might remember from a  previous post in the hometown glory series, we have buildings and structures dotted all over that make onlookers “wow” and “woah!”  - and now…we also have this:

We have Anish Kapoor (the guy pictured at the top) to thank for this thing being called ‘The Orbit’. Although the term “thank” in this case is of course me being sarcastic. The Orbit looks like a draft of a theme park ride (albeit a pretty fun one) but I’m sure that wasn’t his intention. If it was his intention, what was he thinking!?

Sure it has character, but is that enough? Where is the charm? Where is the grace? It took us long enough to digest the fact that the Millennium dome looked like it did and costed that much to put together – and then when it wasn’t the year 2000 anymore, we got the The O2, which at least made use of the place. However, what will we do with The Orbit once The Olympics is over? 

Today I don’t feel like doing anything…I just wanna lay in my bed…*whistles* & I’m gonna!

Lazy Sunday activities:

• Take extra long showers/baths & use too much shower gel/bubble bath
• Stock up on comfort foods/drinks (my choices: Cocoa, Oreo’s, crisps, Pepsi and Ice cream)
• Surround yourself with your favourite scents like perfume or candles
• Watch all your favorite dvd’s
• Dress in comfy pajama’s and slippers
• Listen to your favourite music
• Ignore your phone (if possible)
• Soaps & series catch-ups on the Sky+
• Have fun with the family

This instalment in the hometown glory series, focuses on our beautiful City, London…and who will be our Mayor.

Now, all the facts have been power-blasted across our tele’s for months, so I’m prepared to take a chance & say that you know them, and I’m writing this post today in hopes that you will vote tomorrow.

Some people might be put off of voting because they are new to it, hate politics, and think this doesn’t affect them, the first two excuses i’ll allow, but that last one is a no-go!

What do you miss about the warmer weather?

Responsibility can suck sometimes – but sometimes stuff is just your fault. Whichever way you talk it round, make it up, or pretty it over, sometimes – you are to blame for whatever the issue is.

Unfortunately though, all too often a person caught with their hand in the cookie jar (I too thought this was an annoying cliché until once, I was actually caught pinching one of mums freshly baked cookies from the kitchen… ) wont own up!

Anyway, I thought it might be interesting to list why sometimes…you should just accept responsibility. This doesn’t refer to responsibility for anything in particular, the same points could work against anything from annoying work-days to dodgy fashion choices…

1. You’ve been in the same situation before, and the results weren’t great. You willingly get into that situation again, this time hoping for different results; and then get annoyed when you don’t get them…Your fault!

2. In a conversation (discussion/argument) you get to that point where you know you are either right or wrong, but you continue to talk/comment/respond rather than just conclude – which gets you annoyed…Your fault!

3. You asked somebody you trust’s opinion, and they gave you great advice, and then you went against it & hated the results…Your fault!

4. You went against your own gut feeling & then hated the results…Your fault!

Sometimes…it’s just you, you know?  - But cheer up, you’re only human!  

Now I know it’s been a while since my last hometown glory post, but folks, I have big news!!! – Nando’s is coming to the ends!

I just came across this bit of glorious news nosing through our local paper, The Fulham Chronicle and it seems, if all goes to plan by the end of the year, ‘smith could be hooked right up with some of the best flame grilled chicken there is in London.

…& my friends, if that ain’t hometown glory – I don’t know what is!

Ever lost something valuable and told someone, who then jokingly sang the infamous lyrics from Life of Brian? Infuriatingly funny, right? Anyway, even though it’s an annoying cliché, it’s pretty much right on the mark.

When you lose something, you automatically gain something else (other than a bad mood) if you allow yourself to. – One of these things is perspective. You get to see things clearly, for what they are.

Unfortunately, we often only understand the importance of something until we lose it, and then annoy ourselves thinking about how we would have done things differently had we known the future outcome. How much nicer you would have been to your colleague today about that huge email error (or something), had you known he was going through a messy divorce, how much more sleep you would have gotten rather than staying up to watch the tele, had you known that studying would require you to be sleep deprived for years on end…
