In today’s world of entertainment, people are constantly being built up, torn down & then trampled on. After being trampled on pretty intensely, the dirt stains remain on their name so long that we can’t even bring them up without attaching them to that “oh so terrible” & inhumane incident that happened a trillion years ago (incidents that happen on a day-to-day basis with normal folk) yet we make NO exceptions for these entertainers.
Of course you would like some examples, so by all means here goes:
Team-Breezy

I have always remained neutral in “the” actual accident. Granted we have no idea what happened, even though those YouTube videos were hilarious! I loved Chris Brown as an entertainer before the incident (& I continue to love him now). I was upset that something of this magnitude happened to two urban music icons, two people close to my own age, and two successful African Americans …that really made it feel real. These were just two lovers who had a whirlwind romance and some bad stuff happened towards the end.
The rumours verged from heartbreaking to ridiculous. Even though we all want to know what happened, I really respect how these guys went through the proper mediums to solve the issue, the courts and the police were involved & they moved on and dated new people. Suggestive songs were made from both parties, there were rumours that CB was gonna get beat down by the people at Rihanna’s camp, we all wanted the songs to be about the two of them and we wanted to punch whoever chimed in with realistic comments about them each having songwriters and publicists meaning the songs were not about each of them at all – frankly, we just wanted float off into some fantasy world somewhere, where WE were the experts and depending on how we felt that day, CB did or didn’t deserve the backlash from what he did. Shame on us!
*Kanye Shrug*

I’ll never forget the era in which I first discovered Kanye West’s music in the early ‘00s after hearing ‘Through the Wire’. What I didn’t realise, was that I was actually a fan of Kanye before I knew who Kanye was. The many instrumentals he made for other successful artists astounded me & at that time, I had no clue that this guy was a producer before rapping.
When the soulful music was used with his own raps on joints like Diamonds from Sierra Leone – I just thought “wow!” Jump forward a few years, and people literally tried to tear dude down. Like – he walked on stage and spoke his mind. He didn’t stab anybody, nobody was spat on, and there were no threats of any kind. Just a guy who might have been tipsy, who did something he shouldn’t have done. Yes – It was silly, no – he shouldn’t have done it, yes – it ruined another artists moment and YES – that was wrong.
Okay so, Twitter went apesh*t, this made front page news, it was all over the internet, there were public apologies, ‘Ye had to take a time-out…Meanwhile people in ghetto’s & poor communities everywhere continue to starve, struggle, steal, fight, get locked up, people in the 3rd world continue to do the same, the price of petrol is ridiculous and we ignore that in place of some drunk guy who was really out of order in a moment of madness?
#Winning

I love Charlie Sheen. He was a very handsome & very talented actor that had a personal life that started to leak into his working life so people took that and ran with it. As far as I’m concerned he is entertaining and funny, people like the bad stuff about him because it makes him even more real, and appealing – he is the son of the great Martin Sheen and brother of the talented Emilio Estevez, and I just can’t help but gravitate towards him. Heck, if he were touring here in London, I think I’d cop a ticket – just to see if his sense of humour translates well on stage.
See, unlike the Whitney example of private lives ruining public opportunities, in ‘Two and a Half Men’ I never saw anything wrong with Charlie’s skills as an actor. Granted in the last season that was shown, he didn’t look as well slept as the previous seasons, but that’s neither here nor there. The”#winning” catchphrase that everybody got so excited about saying, did start to annoy me a little, it was as if the word hadn’t been created before he used it…
Jail-Bait

Back and forth with the authorities, all kinds of rehab stints – Miss Lohan finds herself wrapped up in all kinds of drama. Despite the ability to make a good comedy/dramady (The Parent Trap, Mean Girls) Lindsay’s partying habits seem to creep their way onto the front pages of entertainment magazines as if we don’t know she parties.
The only reason I’m commenting on this is because of how tired it is. People like fresh drama. We don’t necessarily find the same thing funny (unless it’s a YouTube parody as mentioned above – rofl!) – So, what I fail to understand is WHY the media keep telling us about her probation, parole or whatever it is that Lohans lawyer is sorting out for her. Look – just put a funny movie in the theatres and charge us a reasonable fee to watch it, that’s what we care about.*yawn*
Crabs in a Barrel

Nicki Minaj & Lil Kim *SIGH* – Now I’m a fan of both artists & I just think that the entire thing is silly now. Not because of that same cliché that says two rappers cant beef, that’s silly too – nah I think it’s laughable just how many “fans” of each artist are doing whatever they can to pit these two against each other. Of course NM is inspired by LK. She has mentioned this numerous times, using her instrumentals early into her career was a sure-fire sign of that + I’ve heard interviews from both parties who have said that there wasn’t any real beef to begin with.
What is embarrassing in my POV is that these two have beef – that’s perfectly acceptable rappers DO beef, BUT these two women who have had cult like influence over generations and are showing us that women beefing in the music industry is catty and childish rather than handled with confidence and authority. When guys beef (think Biggie & Pac, think Nas & Jay-Z, think Eminem & Benzino think 50-Cent & Ja Rule) there are some harsh lyrics in songs (Ether, Dig-aHole, Hit ‘Em Up, The Sauce) – fans take one persons side or the other – and its settled like that. I’m not even mad at NM or LK, it’s the fans that are doing anything they can to keep this beef going.
All it looks like, is that we as women can’t do anything for ourselves without stomping on the next girl. It kinda reminds me of those fights that used to happen in school: one person would push another (NM pushes LK), and the person who was pushed (LK) has no plans to react, but what happens is that a crowd forms (crazy ass fans) and start saying “omgsh are you gonna let her push you?- You’re a chump for that!” Next minute, the pushee (LK) who has never really lost a fight, pushes back and an unnecessary brawl starts. THEN the teachers come and -guess what- the crowd disperses (fans) leaving the pusher (NM) and pushee (LK) to get into trouble (or look silly)!
Everyone I mentioned here, I think is talented at their craft. The media reports about their blunders were entertaining the first month they were released – after that it got real boring, real quickly…I’m just saying.
